2025 has been an incredible year for Chris Curtis. He’s come on as a threat recently in the Modifieds while leading the 358 Modified points. Saturday night saw Curtis take the lead early and hold on to win his first Modified feature at Lebanon Valley.
“The last couple of cautions, I was a bit nervous with Flach and Schroder,” Curtis said afterwards. “They’re pretty stout guys. As [long] as I could clear them coming off of turn 2, I knew that we could get back to the top in turns 3 and 4 where we needed to be.”
Curtis won by .599 seconds over Keith Flach. Kolby Schroder was third, then Neil Stratton and Andy Bachetti.
Josh Marcus started from pole and battled early with Brandon Lane. A couple of incidents kept the field bunched up. Curtis started in sixth and quickly got himself behind the lead duo.
He was able to follow Lane past Curtis on lap 3. Shortly afterwards, he was able to get a run and get past Lane for the lead.
As the race continued, it quickly became a three-man duel between Curtis, Schroder and Flach. Schroder and Flach battled hard, swapping second three times officially, but many more times unofficially. The fight did cost them time to Curtis at first, but they caught back up in lapped traffic.
A spin for Montgomery Tremont in turn 1 brought the field back together for a four-lap sprint. Curtis was able to hold on to take the win.
The main show for the night was the inaugural Jason Herrington Memorial, a 31-lap feature for the 358 Modifieds in honor of the longtime regular in the division who died back in March.
Ryan Larkin earned the pole in a redraw and led early. The race had some trouble getting underway due to a series of spins in the early laps.
Those spins allowed Bachetti to move up from his 15th starting spot to get into the top-five by lap 4. L.J. Lombardo was able to take the lead from Larkin on lap 6 and was running strong.
Curtis was also very fast and took advantage of a mistake from Lombardo to take the lead on lap 10. Shortly after another restart, Lombardo ran in the back of Kyle Sheldon and turned him into the wall on the frontstretch to bring out a yellow.
Bachetti moved up to second on the restart and hounded Curtis through a couple more restarts. Eventually, he was able to get the lead on lap 18. From there, he held on through four more restarts to take the victory.
Curtis ended up .719 seconds back in second, then Stratton and Jeff Watson. Michael Sabia was fifth.
Sportsman had Karl Barnes started on pole in his No. 307, but he lost the lead in turn 2 on the first lap to Dylan Grogan. The field was stacked up in turns 3 and 4, resulting in Craig Wholey spinning out and hitting the wall.
Tim Hartman Jr. started 11th and quickly made his way to the front, taking the lead from Grogan on lap 6. From there, he had a half-second a lap in pace on Grogan and pulled away from the field.
A.J. Albreada had the pace to hang with Hartman, but it took until lap 15 for him to get to second. By then, it was too late as Hartman held on for his sixth win of the year. Albreada was 4.395 seconds back in second, then Alex Bell, Brady Cordova and Grogan.
In Limited Sportsman, Garrett Biagiarelli started from pole, but almost immediately lost the advantage to Ray Royals. Behind Royals, there was trouble to be had. First, John Santolin spun early on. Later on, Brandon Lemaire spun out of third in turn 3.
On the restart, Santolin was caught up in another crash along with Kyle Burl and Harold Robitaille. Burl was out on the spot.
Braxton Martin drove up to second early on and challenged Royals for the lead, but he could prevent Royals from taking his first career Limited Sportsman win. Martin was second, then Dylan Holmes, Cam Van Zandt and Brian Walsh.
Pro Stock teams had a 25-lap feature Saturday night due to no heat races. As a result, Shawn Perez started from the pole. Tom Dean was right on his tail in the opening laps and managed to take the lead away on lap 3.
A couple of laps later, Chris Stalker and Frank Twing collided in turn 4 and spun. David Stickles was also collected. On the restart, another incident broke out involving Twing, Shawn Perez, Rocco Procopio and Kent Clark. Procopio and Shawn Perez were out on the spot, while Twing lost nine laps making repairs.
Another incident on lap 6 ended the night for Shawn Perez Jr. after Paul LaRochelle spun in turn 3. Nick Hilt proceeded to drive over the right front corner of the No. 09J, putting Perez Jr. out.
Through this, Dean was able to keep himself clean. The rest of the race ran clean and green. Dean was able to pull away to win by 1.95 seconds over Zach Sorrentino. Hilt was third, then Stalker and Stickles.
In Street Stock, Dave Streibel Jr. earned his third win of the year.
