Andy Bachetti was able to get around J.R. Heffner with four laps to go Saturday night. From there, he held on to take his fourth Modified win of 2025 at Lebanon Valley.
“[The battle with Heffner] is what racing’s about,” Bachetti said after the race. “I enjoyed myself. Whether I finished second and he won, or vice versa, it was great racing tonight.”
Bachetti won by 2.135 seconds over Brett Haas. Chris Curtis third, then Heffner and Kyle Amstrong.
Josh Marcus started from the pole and quickly found himself in a battle with Bubba McPhee. McPhee was able to take the lead on the first lap, but just as quickly lost the advantage back to Marcus.
Heffner started third and quickly drove up to Marcus’ rear bumper bar. It did not take long for Heffner to take over the lead on lap 6. Shortly afterwards, the caution flew when John Virgilio, Alan Houghtaling and Brandon Lane all came together in turn 3. Lane was eliminated in the crash.
On the restart, Haas got an excellent start and got around Heffner for the lead. The Valatie native did not take that without a fight. A lap later, he was able to come back and reassume the lead.
Behind the leaders, Bachetti was slowly moving up from 14th on the grid. He was up to fourth on lap 19 when Chris Bisson stalled and brought out the yellow.
On the restart, Bachetti used the inside to get up to second. Following another caution, he put the pressure on Heffner for the lead. He took the lead on lap 25, but Heffner got it back. A lap later, Bachetti made the pass that stuck for the win. From there, he drove away to take the win.
The 358 Modified class saw Houghtaling start from the pole and do battle with Kyle Sheldon and Donny Travaglin early on. The three of them slowed each other up, which allowed Bachetti to sweep past all of them to take the lead on lap 4.
Following a crash in turn 3 involving Mike Engwer and Michael Sabia, Bachetti began to drive away from the field slowly. That advantage eventually increased to five seconds.
Behind Bachetti, Chris Curtis, fresh off of a rebuild necessitated due to a tear down last week, was able to drive up to second from 12th on the grid. Despite that, Bachetti appeared to have his number.
That is until Bachetti suddenly slowed on lap 18. The culprit was a bolt that fell out of the driveshaft, rendering his car dead in the water.
Curtis swept into the lead and drove off to take his second straight win and fifth of the year. Joey Coppola was second, then Jeff Watson, Guy Sheldon and Kyle Sheldon.
Sportsman had Owen Lewis start on the pole and lead early. However, he jumped the cushion on lap 4, allowing Anthony Maxon to pass.
Further back, Tim Hartman Jr. started 10th and quickly made his way forward. He was already fifth when Maxon snagged the lead and continued to move forward from there.
Hartman caught Maxon for the lead three laps later. The two battled hard, but the defending Sportsman champion took the lead on lap 10. From there, Hartman drove away to take his fourth win of the year.
Hartman won by 3.491 seconds over Maxon. Brady Cordova was third, then Dylan Grogan and Craig Wholey.
Ray Royals started from the pole in the Limited Sportsman feature and led early. However, Royals spun on lap 5 after contact from Braxton Martin. Martin was sent to the rear for the contact, which gave the lead to John Santolin.
After a spin from Jason Manchester brought the field back together, Harold Robitaille was right up on Santolin’s tail for the lead. Cam Van Zandt, who won last time out two weeks ago, was there as well.
On lap 8, Van Zandt was able to dispatch Robitaille for second, then snagged the lead from Santolin. From there, Van Zandt pulled away to win by 2.731 seconds over Dylan Holmes. Santolin was third, then Brandon Lemaire and Dalton Gamache.
Pro Stock teams competed in the Inaugural Zach Seyerlein Memorial Saturday night. This race was a special 33-lap feature in memory of Seyerlein, a former Pro Stock and Street Stock regular that died earlier this year in a car accident.
By virtue of a redraw, Frank Twing claimed the pole in a race that had a little trouble getting started. Dave Stickles spun to bring out an early caution, then Tom Dean drew a second one after he stalled with a somewhat similar backfiring issue to what he had last week.
Once the field got into a rhythm, Twing opened up a small lead over Jason Meltz and rode. The advantage eventually got up to nearly 2.5 seconds before a debris caution bunched the field up.
A couple of cautions late kept the field close, but no one could stop Twing from leading flag-to-flag to win. Shawn Perez Jr. was second, then Rocco Procopio, Paul LaRochelle and Shawn Perez.
In Street Stock, Dave Streibel won the Street Stock portion of the Zach Seyerlein Memorial.
