Yetman Dominates For Tour Win While Corbin Takes Valley Title

Meilleur and Speed Gets Checkers In LV/Budget Sportsman

Saturday September 11, 2010

Salute to Our Heroes night went off with a bang as a packed crowd watched a full night of racing action at the mighty high banks of Lebanon Valley Speedway. On tap for this special night of racing honoring our Heroes in the military and emergency services, as well as remembering the tragedies just 9 short years ago was a 30 Pro Stock DirtCar Tour Event.

The marquee event was the Liberty 30 Pro Stock feature event. The 30 car field took to the Valley of Speed with the #7 for Rob Yetman at the head of the field along with the #1R of Ricky Thompson. At the green Yetman powered out to the early lead over the #1R until the 1st caution flew on lap 6 for the #24 of Robbie Speed loosing an engine.

On the restart, Yetman powered away again, as the caution flew again on lap 7 for a spinning car in turn 2. Green was out again, and again the #7 began to pull away from field. Within a few short laps, the #7 had checked out on the field and had nearly a full straightaway advantage.

Caution flew again on lap 19, but that just slowed the inevitable, at Yetman soared away and took the checkers in the wire to wire win. Tour veteran Pete Stefanski crossed the line 2nd followed by Thompson. Jay Corbin rolled across the line 4th followed by Chad Jeseo to round out the top 5.

With just starting the event, Corbin scored the 2010 Pro Stock High Point Championship. Also, Chad Jeseo was honored for winning the Pro Stock Echo Series Point Title.

The LV Sportsman were also on tap for a 20 lap feature event as the #88JR of Olden Dwyer took off to the early lead as the #21 of Ryan Darcy struggled to get up to speed. But Dwyer’s lead was very short lived as the #36 of Steve Meilleur powered past both Darcy and Dwyer for the top spot and began to pull away.

With no other cautions to slow the field, the #36 put in on cruise control to take the 20 lap feature. Following Meilleur was the #22 of Jeff Watson, Kim Herrick crossed the line 3rd, Brett Haas, and Dwyer rounded out the top 5.

The Budget Sportsman took to the mighty high banks for their 20 lap feature. Up front early was double duty driver Robbie Speed aboard the #4NY over the #09 of Kevin Lynch. Lynch held on to the 2nd spot for a number of laps that clicked off the Kokosa Oil In Lap Counter, but Speed had the #4NY on a rail.

Whitey Slavin finally powered by Lynch on by lap 11, but the #53 just didn’t have enough to get past Speed. As the checkers flew, Robbie Speed scores his first open wheel- win of his career. Slavin had to settle for second, followed by Jake Jelley, Tim Hartman Jr, and Angelo DiCarlo.

Up next was the 7th Annual Boomer’s Performance Pure Stock Classic as the 20 lap event took to the Valley of Speed in memory of the late Robert “Boomer” Bedell. Before lap 1 clicked off the board, the #27 of Ray Hall Sr jumped out to the early lead.

Caution flew on lap 4 for a horrific incident on the front stretch that collected up to 8 cars and caused a brief red flag for clean up. When the green flag flew again, the #27 was still in control out front with the #14 of Al Relyea and the #24 of John Devine. Caution flew once again on lap 12, but that wasn’t gonna keep the #27 of Ray Hall Sr from capturing the 7th Annual Boomer’s Performance Pure Stock Classic. Al Relyea, Bob Palmer, Ray Hall Jr, and Devine rounded out the top 5 finishers.  In the regular Pure Stock division features, Pure Stock #1 was captured by Kirk Stanaway. Pure Stock #2 was won by Dave Stickles, while Pure Stock #3 was doubled down by Ray Hall Sr.

Next Saturday Night at the Valley of Speed will make the end of the road for the 2010 season. And to cap the night and the season off, the Budget Sportsman will be the highlight of the night as a special Fall Brawl 50, $1,000 to win Budget Sportsman Feature. It will also mark the final points for the Budget Sportsman, LV Sportsman, and Pure Stocks. Also on tap will be the 4 cylinders and an additional 20 lap Pure Stock Shoot Out.
