Tremont Builds on Amazing Career - Adds Another Win
Saturday July 18, 2009
By: Rodney Rescott

The legendary high banks at Lebanon Valley Speedway have played host to thousands of races throughout it’s 56 years of operation, and a Tremont was a part of most of them. But not until 1979 did everything change when Kenney Tremont Jr took to the speedway for a 30 year reign at the Valley of Speed.

With weather being such a major issue as of late, the skies were finally clear for an entire night of hot racing action. The first order of business was a makeup Pure Stock #1 event that saw Chard Arsenault visit victory lane. Then in Pure Stock #4, also from last Saturday’s schedule, Johnny Chapman scored the win.

Rifenberg Construction ordered up a full schedule of events for the nights racing program. The mighty big block modifieds took to the speedway for their 30 lap feature event. Matt Quinn lead the field to the green flag aboard the #34Q with John Ruchel’s #7 sharing the front row.
The 25 car field charged into the first turn as the racing got under way. But the caution fle
w for the #64 of Don Ackner’s #64 slowing in turn 3. Quinn was still up front on the restart with Ruchel and Rich Salisbury in tow through turns one and two.

Deep in the field the usual suspects were marred in heavy traffic. Andy Bachetti, Donnie Corellis, and Kenny Tremont Jr began there charge from the 6th and 7th rows. The field was settling in for a dicy race as the #518 of Kyle Sheldon charged into 2nd.

Tremont was the first to break into the top 5 and soon charged into 2nd by lap 9. Caution flew for a slowing car on the backstretch which bunched the field for a side by side restart. Quinn charged out front, but Tremont was on fire and darted out front and pulled away from the field.

The caution flew a few more times but it was not going to effect the legendary Sand Lake Slingshot, as the #115 notched another victory in his history at the high banks, event after loosing his motor on the last lap. Donnie Corellis wrestled the #57 up to 2nd spot, while Andy Bachetti, Matt Quinn and Guy Sheldon completed the top 5.

Next up was the 20 lap Pro Stock feature event with Nick Hilt and Chad Jeseo out in front of the field. Nick Hilt’s #17 took control of the 29 car field early while the field jostled for position. The caution flew several times for the next handful of laps. Hilt held on to the top spot with thee #324 of Jason Casey hot on his heels.

By lap 13, Casey had taken over the top spot, and began to check out on the field. That was all he needed as Jason Casey scores the win. Hilt crossed the line 2nd, while Mike Middleton rallied to 3rd. 4th was Kevin Arnold followed by Jay Casey to complete the top 5. Cord Becker scored the win in Budget Pro Stocks.

The Sportsman were next up as the 20 lap feature was slowed just 4 times by cautions; but it was not going to deny Kolby Schroder from scoring the flag to flag victory. Kyle Hoffman charged to second, while Chad Pierce settled for 3rd. Alan Houghtaling and Frank Harper completed the top 5.

Andy Bachetti won the special Constructors 10 lap Clash that included a pit stop with a tire change. Also, the Pure Stocks had their 4 feature events. In Pure Stock #1 Chad Arsenault scores his 2nd win of the night. In Pure Stock #2, James Hatch took the checkers. Pure Stock #3 was won by Ray Hall Jr., while Pure Stock #4 was won by Doug Olds.

The 4 cylinders were won by Don Curley and Frank Sorrento.

NBT Bank will present next Saturday’s events with a special $500 to win Pro Stock Shootout. All classes will be in action including the Budget Sportsman Double Features!
