Hearn Cashes in then the Rain Stole the Show
Saturday June 13, 2009

Just a few short weeks ago, the Valley of Speed was packing a full night of racing action when Mother Nature decided to crash the party. All classes had their double features the next week; the Benjamin Moore Paints 358 Super Series was delayed till the next schedule return.
Fast forward 3 weeks, this past Saturday night at the legendary high banks, the 358’s made their return to finish what they started. Derek Schibi and Ernie palmer brought the field of almost 30 cars to life for their 24 lap make-up event.
Matt Quinn charged from his 6th starting spot to jump into 2nd by lap 2, and then past Palmer for 1st by lap 3. Behind him, the #16 of Kyle Hoffman made his way to 2nd but was short lived as the #115 of Kenny Tremont stole it away one lap later.
Brett Hearn followed Tremont’s every move and settled in behind the #115 in 3rd. As the field began settling in for a good race, trouble sparked the first caution of the night. On lap 9 the #23 of Chris Kervatt made contact with the turn 2 wall, while at the same time the #171 of Tom Faxon slowed in turn 4 causing several cars to pile in.
If that weren’t enough, the #24S of Rich Salisbury lost his brakes going into turn 3, careening the race car hard into the outside wall causing it to flip several times before coming to rest upside down in turn 4.
After several moments, Salisbury emerged from the wreckage a little shaken, but ok. The car was not so lucky. The red flag was lifted after a 10 minute clean up and racing was back under way.
Quinn was still in command of the field at the time of the restart with Tremont, Hearn, and now Andy Bachetti joined the group for a 4 car shootout.
Quinn pulled out several car lengths to try and check out, but Tremont and Hearn were not letting him get too far. Bachetti, Hearn and Tremont battle for second for several laps before Hearn finally dove under the #115 and cleared him for good by lap 12.
The #20H then set sail for the #20Q with just a 12 laps remaining. Quinn seemed to have control of the field until Hearn began to pressure Quinn for the lead by lap 20. Hearn just had too much left in the tank as he charged under Quinn with just 2 lap remaining, and took the top spot away for good.
At the checkers, Brett Hearn captured the rain delayed win, with Quinn right on his rear deck for 2nd. Tremont settled for 3rd followed by Bachetti and J.R. Heffner. Kyle Hoffman, Matt Pupello, Steve Hough, Ted Teal and Kory Sandstedt rounded out the top 10.
Then, before the rains came and damped the mighty high banks, there were 2 Pure Stock features that were completed. In Pure Stock #1 Jeff Douglas held off a hard challenge by Chad Arsenault and Dave Hauser to take his first win of 2009. And in Pure Stock #3 Lou Ganczar held off a charging Ed Hatch to take his 2nd win of the year.
Shortly after a handful of heat races, the rains came. The speedway was lost, and racing was called. The schedule for next week will be jam packed full of racing. There will be several double features that will need to be run on top of the next week’s regular card of racing action.
There will be Double Features for the Modifieds, Pro Stocks, as well as Pure Stock #2. A decision on the Sportsman feature has not been made at press time, but will be posted on our website by Tuesday.
On top of all that extra racing, Anderson Equipment and Heim’s Autocare are presenting Kiddie Ride Night along with a bicycle giveaway. All classes will be in attendance along with the 4th Annual Bubba Tanner 23 lap Pro Stock Classic presented by DMC Racing Products. And if that weren’t enough, the Budget Sportsman is also set to make a return to the high speed high banks on that night as well.
So mark your calendars for June 20th as the most racing in one night for the best price in town. You can’t get this kind of action anywhere for this price!
