July 7, 2007 |

Of course the highlighted event for the night was once again the big block Modifieds for their 30 lap feature event for an extra cool $3,000.00. On the front row, it was the #39 of Ryan Larkin, along with the #87X of Paul Gilardi. When the green flag dropped, Gilardi took control of the 22 car field. But trouble came early for some of the top runners. Eddie Marshall's #98 got sideways in turn two, and everyone else checked up to avoid contact on lap 2. Hector Stratton, Eddie Marshall, Matt Quinn, Guy Sheldon, and Wayne Figler. All were able to continue, some with some major repairs, while the #24 of Figler was the only car done for the night. On the restart, Gilardi once again lead the field through turns one and two. Gilardi led the pack until lap 7; when Steve Hough made heavy contact with the outside boiler plate coming down the front stretch bring out another yellow. This put the #24 of John Hewitt on his inside on the next restart. Gilardi once again powered his Fast Loans #87x to the top spot. Another caution flew on lap 11 for heavy contact with the #21J of Jeff Trombley and the #88 of Matt Quinn. Trombley reported that the breaks failed entering turn one, and just lost control. Trombley was done for the night, and the #88 of Quinn continued. But it was Gilardi at the point, this time with the A. Calarusso & Sons #74 of J.R. Heffner who wanted to take over. Gilardi didn't back down, and the two fought for the lead for the next eight laps, but this time, Gilardi held on, and finally got his first win of 2007. At th checkers it was the #87X of Gilardi taking the big $3,000.00 payday, followed by Heffner, Andy Bachetti powered his way into the 3rd spot, followed by the #115 of Kenny Tremont, while Mark Flach, Jr. finished a strong 5th. The 20 lap Pro Stock feature event took to the legendary high banks. Kyle Hosier had the early lead, but the caution flew on lap one with several cars getting together in the first turn. Included in the melee was the #35 of Rick Dempsey, the #38M of Mike Middleton, the #243 of Victor Hopkins, and a few others. At the green, the field was under the control of Kyle Hosier's #71. The next caution flew for Ed Bishop's #11 spinning in turn 3. This put the red-hot Speed's Garage #24 of Robbie Speed right on the deck lid of Hosier. The green flew once again on lap 8, and it was the #71 and the #24 dicing it out for the top spot. Door to door, wheel to wheel for nearly 5 laps, they battled fiercely with each other. Finally, by lap 14, the #24 had the advantage, and it was all over for the rest of the field. Even a late race charge by the #8 of Jay Corbin wasn't going to deny Speed his 2nd win of 2007. Following Speed was Corbin at the checkers. Hosier held on to finish 3rd, followed by Jay Casey, and Jason Casey rounding out the top 5. The Sportsman took to the Jeff Kelly's view out front was somewhat short lived, as the #68 of Art Collins got to the #44, and moved on by to take over the point. And that was all he needed, as the checkers flew on the #68. Following Collins was the #80 of Kory Sandstedt, the #22 of Defending Point Champ Jeff Watson, #5 of Chris Tryon, and the #87 of Neil Stratton rounded out the top 5. In the Limited pro Stocks, it was the same day, just a different date, as the N&L Autobody #17 of Nick Hilt started last, and took just 3 short laps to power his way to the point. Once out front, he set the cruise control and took a Saturday Night cruise. At the checkers, Hilt was followed by the #98 of Justin Herron, and the #6 of John Santolin. The rest of the top 5 were Rob Maxon, and Joe Mennite. The nearly 50 car strong Pure Stock Division winners were: PS#1 - Joe Walcott, PS#2 - Ray Hall, Sr., and PS# 3 - Al Relyea. Phil Difiglio goes 12 for 12 taking the 4 Cylinder Double Cam class, while Don Curley survived to win the 4 Cylinder Single Cams. On the horizon for next Saturday night, it is the return of the Rifenburg Construction Night of Features! On the card of events will be the Big Blocks Modifieds, including the return of one of our past champs, and the Benjamin Moore Paints 358 Super Series.
